‘ROADERS FALL IN SERIES FINALE TO SALTDOGS
CLEBURNE, TX – The Lincoln Saltdogs won a series against the Railroaders at La Moderna Field for the first time since 2018 with their 6-1 victory on Wednesday, July 5. They were powered by Aaron Takacs’ three-RBI night plus an outstanding pitching performance from John Bezdicek.
Lincoln put up three in the top of the second to jump to a lead that they never relinquished. Yanio Perez opened the inning by reaching an error by Alex Jackson. Will Kengor then proceeded to drive him home with an RBI double to deep center field to make it 1-0. Kengor scored on a Takacs single. Finally, Takacs scored on a Connor Panas double.
Cleburne got their lone run of the game in the bottom of the fourth when JJ Figueroa hit a two-out RBI single to score Mark Karaviotis.
The Saltdogs added on with two more runs in the eighth and another in the ninth to come away with the 6-1 win.
Bezdicek was phenomenal on the mound for the Saltdogs on Wednesday night. He went six innings and allowed just one run on three hits. He struck out three and walked three. The bullpen for Lincoln was shut down as well. Carter Hope and R.J. Freure didn’t allow a hit in their three innings of work and struck out a combined six hitters.
Trey Cumbie picked up the loss for the ‘Roaders. He went 4.2 innings and allowed three runs (only one earned) on five hits. He walked four and struck out three.
