Railroaders to Travel By Train For 2021 Road Games
CLEBURNE, Texas (April 1, 2021) – The Cleburne Railroaders announced Thursday that the team will honor the 1906 Texas League champions by traveling via train for all 2021 road games.
The new travel schedule, which will feature several 24+ hour train rides in cramped, uncomfortable passenger carriages, serves as an homage to the 1906 Cleburne club that traveled on the railways during their championship-winning season.
“We felt this was a great way to honor our railroading roots, while also building some character in our guys,” general manager John Junker said. “Though it’s very likely that we’ll show up several hours late to games, I’m confident other teams will be understanding as we go through this process.”
Some American Association opponents do not have a railway station close to the park, meaning that the Railroaders will travel the remainder of the distance via horse and buggy to remain consistent with the time period.
“I’m excited about the possibility of traveling on trains and horse carriages,” 6’5 pitcher Tyler Wilson said. “I’m not expecting leg room to be an issue at all.”
