RAILROADERS COMPLETE FIRST SHUTOUT OF 2022 IN 6-0 WIN
CLEBURNE, TEXAS (July 27, 2022) – Kody Bullard tossed a gem on Wednesday night at The Depot at Cleburne Station. The left-hander’s efforts led the Railroaders in their 6-0 victory over the Gary SouthShore RailCats in game two of the six-game set on July 27.
It wasn’t until the bottom of the third before either side was able to notch a run on the scoreboard. With runners on second and third and Chase Simpson at the plate in the third inning for Cleburne, Simpson took advantage of one of the only bad pitches that Chris Erwin threw on the night and hit a line drive into center field. Nate Scantlin’s dive attempt came up empty and the ball rolled all the way to the wall, enabling Simpson to round them all and give himself an inside-the-park home run and the Railroaders a 3-0 lead.
Bullard shut down the RailCats offense throughout the night and left the bullpen in good hands after exiting the ballgame after completing six innings of scoreless work while only allowing two hits and striking out seven.
Cleburne added on to their lead in the bottom of the sixth when Hector Sanchez hit a moonshot into the RailCats bullpen in right-center field to make it 4-0 in favor of the home team.
Two more came around to score in the bottom of the seventh when Zach Nehrir blasted a ball into Tarrant County to give Cleburne some insurance.
The Railroaders’ bullpen was fantastic in their three innings of work. Danny Zardon, Austin Fairchild, and Nick Gardewine pitched three scoreless frames, only allowing one hit while striking out four and walking two.
Deservedly picking up the win was Bullard, who moves to 4-4. Erwin gets the loss for the RailCats which moves his record to 1-3.
With the victory, Cleburne expands their lead over Gary SouthShore for possession of fourth place in the East Division. They now stand a game and a half ahead of the RailCats moving into tomorrow’s contest.
The series continues tomorrow at 7:06 p.m. from The Depot at Cleburne Station with pregame coverage beginning at 6:45 p.m. on AABaseball.tv and the Railroader Radio Network.
