Peterson Clubs His Way to Batter of the Week

CLEBURNE, Texas (Aug. 30, 2021) – The American Association announced Monday that Cleburne Railroaders infielder D.J. Peterson has been named the Pointstreak Batter of the Week.

Peterson is the second Railroaders player to win the award in 2021. Osvaldo Martinez snagged the honor on July 26, while Michael Mariot was named Pitcher of the Week on May 31.

Since being acquired from the Atlantic League’s Lexington Legends on August 3, Peterson has compiled one of the most torrid three-week stretches in Railroaders franchise history, capped off by an incredible past week.

Despite missing the first two games of the week, the veteran slugger went 13-for-20 with six home runs and 13 RBI in only five contests. That stretch was highlighted by a record-breaking performance on August 25 against Sioux Falls, when Peterson became the first player in Cleburne franchise history to homer three times in one game, racking up 14 total bases to establish a new single-game record.

During the recently completed series in Lincoln, Peterson homered in three consecutive games, including a grand slam on August 27.

For the season, the former first round draft pick is now slashing .412/.480/.824 over the course of 23 games with the Railroaders, all on the heels of an impressive stretch in Lexington where he hit .311 with 15 home runs in only 45 games. His 24 total long balls are the second-most he has pounded in a single season, trailing only the 31 he hit in 2014.

Peterson and the Railroaders return to action on Monday night against the Houston Apollos. First pitch from The Depot at Cleburne Station is scheduled for 7:06 PM.
