McGovern Blanks Railroaders in Series Finale

CLEBURNE, Texas (May 20, 2021) – Kevin McGovern fired a complete game shutout with eight strikeouts as the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks claimed the rubber game with a 4-0 victory over the Cleburne Railroaders on Thursday night at The Depot at Cleburne Station.

Cleburne (1-2) mustered just four hits, three of which came from Osvaldo Martinez as the Railroaders managed only one runner to third base. McGovern (1-0) retired 10 of the last 11 he faced in picking up the victory for the RedHawks.

Michael Gunn (0-1) battled through five innings for Cleburne, allowing three runs with on seven hits with six strikeouts. Fargo-Moorhead (2-1) scored all three in the top of the second on an RBI groundout from Kevin Krause and a pair of run-scoring singles from Dylan Kelly and Sam Dexter. The RedHawks added the game’s final run in the top of the sixth on a single from Trace Loehr combined with a Cleburne error that made the score 4-0.

Mason Melotakis and Garrett Alexander combined for three scoreless innings of relief to keep the Railroaders within striking distance. 

The Railroaders welcome in the Lincoln Saltdogs for the first contest of a three-game series on Friday night at 7:06 PM. Right-hander Maverik Buffo (0-0, 0.00) starts for Cleburne, while Lincoln will counter with fellow righty Walter Borkovich (0-0, 0.00).
