Mariot Named American Association Pitcher of the Week
CLEBURNE, Tex. (May 31, 2021) – The American Association announced Monday that Cleburne Railroaders right-handed pitcher Michael Mariot has been named the Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week.
Mariot put together a pair of brilliant starts on Cleburne’s first road trip of the season. Pitching against the Lincoln Saltdogs on May 25, he carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning, the longest start without allowing a hit in Railroaders franchise history. Mariot finished the night with seven innings of work, striking out five and allowing just a solo home run in the Railroaders 4-1 victory.
The former Major Leaguer then followed up his record-setting performance with another masterpiece against Kansas City on Sunday. He blanked the Monarchs over six frames, matching a season high with six strikeouts while issuing only one walk and allowing five hits in a 7-0 Cleburne win.
For the season, Mariot is now 2-0 with a 1.00 ERA, the lowest in the American Association for pitchers who have made three starts. Over 18.0 innings, the former Kansas City Royals and Philadelphia Phillies hurler has struck out 17, walked just two, and allowed 12 hits for an opponent batting average of .194.
After an off day on Monday, the Railroaders return to The Depot for their first-ever meeting with the Houston Apollos, kicking off a three-game series on Tuesday night at 7:06 PM.
