KANSAS CITY, Kan. (Aug. 5, 2021) – Alexis Olmeda hit a two-out, three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Kansas City Monarchs rallied for a 9-6 win over the Cleburne Railroaders on Thursday night at Legends Field.

The Railroaders (39-31) led 6-4 going into the seventh, and Michael Krauza (1-1) retired the first two Kansas City hitters he faced to start the inning. But Will Kengor doubled and Drew Ferguson walked to set the stage for Olmeda, who drove a 1-1 pitch over the wall in right-center to give Kansas City (47-24) a 7-6 lead.

The Monarchs added one more in the inning on an infield single from Morgan McCullough, and then tacked on an insurance run in the eighth for the final margin.

Cleburne fell into a quick 4-0 hole in the second inning, but rallied with a four-spot of their own in the fourth. Chase Simpson got the rally started with an RBI single, and Hunter Clanin followed with a long three-run homer to tie the game at 4-4.

Simpson then gave the Railroaders the lead in the sixth with a two-run shot to right, his third home run in the last five games.

Michael Gunn pitched well after the second inning onslaught, working three consecutive scoreless innings but ending up with a no-decision.

Brock Gilliam (2-0) tossed a zero in the top of the seventh to pick up the win, while Jameson McGrane earned his first save with two shutout innings to close out the win.

The Railroaders and Monarchs continue the series on Friday night at 7:00 PM.
