CLEBURNE, Texas (Sep. 1, 2021) – The American Association announced Wednesday that Cleburne Railroaders infielder D.J. Peterson has been named the Rawlings Batter of the Month. The award comes on the heels of Peterson’s selection as Batter of the Week on Monday.

Peterson is the just the second Railroaders player to win a monthly award, and the first batter in franchise history to do so. Patrick Mincey was named Pitcher of the Month for June of the 2017 season.

Peterson’s month of August will go down as one of the most impressive single months in American Association history, with an incredible .402/.481/.848 slash line and 11 home runs since joining the Railroaders on August 3. The veteran infielder has homered in five consecutive games to set a new franchise record, and has eight long balls over his last seven contests in total.

The month was highlighted by a record-breaking performance on August 25 against Sioux Falls, when Peterson became the first player in Cleburne franchise history to homer three times in one game, racking up 14 total bases to establish a new single-game record.

Peterson has added eight doubles and ten walks in a Railroaders uniform, driving in 30 runs while scoring 24.

For the season, the former first round draft pick is hitting a combined .344 with 26 home runs in 70 games between Cleburne and Lexington of the Atlantic League.

Peterson and the Railroaders return to action on Wednesday night against the Houston Apollos. First pitch from The Depot at Cleburne Station is scheduled for 7:06 PM.
