Gardewine’s Contract Transferred to D-Backs
CLEBURNE, Texas (May 20, 2021) – The Cleburne Railroaders announced Thursday that the contract of right-handed pitcher Nick Gardewine has been transferred to the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Gardewine appeared in just one game with the Railroaders, striking out the side in his debut on Opening Night vs. the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. He becomes the third players in Railroaders franchise history to have his contract transferred to a Major League organization, joining right-handed pitchers Cortland Cox (Los Angeles Angels) and Steve Pastora (Milwaukee Brewers).
A former Major Leaguer, Gardewine pitched with the Rangers during the 2017 and 2018 seasons, appearing in 15 total games as a reliever. Over 13.0 innings, Gardewine fashioned a 4.85 ERA, allowing 17 hits while striking out seven. The right-hander made his major league debut on August 22, 2017 against the Los Angeles Angels, then picked up his first strikeout against Matt Adams of the Atlanta Braves on September 6. He originally signed with the Railroaders on May 6.
