Fargo-Moorhead Walks Off Cleburne in Extras

Will Zimmerman worked a one-out walk in the tenth against Bryan Saucedo (0-1), with a wild pitch and a balk advancing him to third. With the count 0-2, Boxwell swung at a pitch that bounced in the dirt but managed to hit a slow roller up the first base line, scoring Zimmerman from third with the winning run.

The loss spoiled a brilliant start from Cleburne left-hander Michael Gunn, who allowed just three hits and one run over seven innings, recording a season-high eight strikeouts. Kyle Chavez retired all five men that he faced out of the Railroaders bullpen.

Cleburne (11-12) took the game’s first lead in the top of the seventh. Hunter Clanin led off the inning with a single, stole second, and raced home on an RBI single from Grant Buck for a 1-0 Railroaders lead.

The RedHawks (15-9) answered with a run in the bottom of the seventh, as Jordan George yanked a two-out RBI double down the left field line to score Leobaldo Pina, who led off the inning with a double of his own. The game remained scoreless until the tenth thanks to the work of Chavez and three Fargo-Moorhead relievers. Alex DuBord (1-0) ultimately picked up the victory with a scoreless top of the tenth, recording a pair of strikeouts.

The Railroaders and RedHawks conclude the series on Sunday at 1:00 PM. Right-hander Garrett Alexander (2-2, 6.64) makes the start for Cleburne, while Fargo-Moorhead counters with fellow right-hander Bret Helton (1-2, 5.40).
