Cleburne Signs Hard-Throwing Righty Jimenez
CLEBURNE, Tex. (May 14, 2021) – The Cleburne Railroaders announced Friday the signing of right-handed pitcher Domingo Jimenez.
Jimenez has five seasons of experience in the Cleveland Indians minor league system, having pitched at four different stops from 2014-2018. The native of San Cristobal, Dominican Republic began his career as a starter but operated out of the bullpen over the last three seasons, totaling 69 games as a professional. He brings a career record of 11-9 with a 3.99 ERA over 164.2 innings of work.
Jimenez signed as a 20-year-old international free agent in 2014, and put together a strong debut campaign with Cleveland’s Dominican Summer League affiliate. He posted a 2.34 ERA over 11 starts, allowing only 30 hits in 50 innings while recording 50 strikeouts. After earning a promotion to the Indians Arizona League club, Jimenez saw his ERA climb to 5.82 the following season, but rebounded in 2016 with a dominant campaign. In his first full year as a reliever, he fired a career-best 1.67 ERA, going 3-1 with a pair of saves in his second stint in the Arizona League.
That dominant performance earned Jimenez a late-season promotion to Cleveland’s short season team in Mahoning Valley, where he pitched in two games. In 2017, he split the year between Mahoning Valley and Class-A Lake County, pitching to a 6.75 ERA. He repeated the level with Lake County again in 2018, trimming more than two full runs off his ERA down to 4.63.
For his career, Jimenez has allowed only 118 hits in 164.2 innings, with 167 strikeouts to his credit.
The Railroaders open the 2021 season at home on May 18 against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. For information on partnerships, season tickets, group outings, and party packages, call the Railroaders main office at (817) 945-8705, or visit the Railroaders official website at www.railroaderbaseball.com.
