Chavez brings four seasons of independent experience to Cleburne, having pitched in the American Association, Can-Am League, Pacific Association, Pecos League, and Empire League. Along the way, the 29-year-old has posted strong overall marks including a 3.54 career ERA in 114.1 innings, racking up 108 strikeouts to only 44 walks.

The low-slot righty was an NAIA All-American at Talladega College as a senior in 2017, going 13-5 with a 2.58 ERA over 21 appearances and 17 starts for the Tornadoes. He struck out 113 while walking only 15 hitters in 118.2 innings, surrendering just 99 hits. Prior to his time at Talladega, Chavez began his collegiate career with Broward College.

Chavez began his professional career with the High Desert Yardbirds of the Pecos League in 2017, pitching in one game before joining the Empire League’s Puerto Rico Islanders, where he fashioned a 2.66 ERA in 12 games. The native of St. Petersburg, Florida then signed with the Gary SouthShore RailCats, appearing in one game against the Sioux Falls Canaries on August 16 and earning the victory with 1.1 scoreless innings of relief.

Chavez split the 2018 season with High Desert and the Pittsburg Diamonds of the Pacific Association, appearing in 19 total games with a 4.08 ERA. He returned to the Pacific Association the following year with the Napa Silverados and became one of the league’s best relievers. In 18 games, he posted a 2.82 ERA with two saves, adding an incredible 35:4 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Chavez finished the year with seven games in the Can-Am League as a member of the Ottawa Champions.

In 2020, Chavez spent time with the New Jersey Jackals in the All-American Baseball Challenge and with the Brilliance Sox of the Empire League.
